WebSummit 2015: Tech Conference Dublin
Excitement is building throughout the internet technology industry as one of the biggest tech events to date takes place in just a few days. WebSummit 2015 takes place in the RDS in Dublin, Ireland from November 3rd to 5th. Described by Forbes as “the best technology conference on the planet” and by CNN as “the hottest event in tech”, WebSummit is not to be missed.
WebSummit has certainly come a long way from its (relatively) humble beginnings as a meet-up for local techies with 400 attendees. Last year’s event saw 22,000 attendees from 109 countries at the RDS and despite some WiFi issues, the event drew the biggest industry names and acted as a key networking event for many. This year’s event is expected to have an even bigger impact, with an estimated 30,000 attendees. The WebSummit 2015 will be host to 21 different sections or “summits”; Startup, Investor, Accelerator, Marketing, Code, Night, Society, Content, Sport, Design, Pub Crawl, Data, Machine, Food, Money, Fashion, Music, Enterprise, HealthTech, City and Community. This insures that attendees will see all fields of Internet Technology represented. There will also be companies from all rungs of the ladder at WebSummit, from top Fortune 500 companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon , Coca Cola and Facebook to exciting new Startups such as Weceipt, Vidi AS and Time Logic.
What we at WP Carers are most excited about is the wealth of important figures from the WordPress wider community who will be present. Slack is the team communication tool used by the WordPress core team, Automattic and many other important sections of the WordPress infrastructure. There are multiple team members from Slack speaking at WebSummit, including Stewart Butterfield (Co-founder and CEO) and April Underwood (Head of Platform). Stripe, PayPal’s major competitor, is utilised by many WordPress users, who’ll be excited to learn that John Collison (President and Co-founder) is speaking at WebSummit. Finally, Heather Brunner (CEO of WP Engine) will be speaking and acting as the most direct representative of the WordPress community at WebSummit.
